On June 3, 2011, parallel to the 4th International Wine and Spirits Fair – WinExpo 2011, the 3rd Georgia International Wine Award took place. The event was organized by Exhibition Center ExpoGeorgia Co. It was the first competition in Georgia that was held under the patronage of International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and was carried in accordance with the OIV recommended principles and standards- the results were revealed due to the blind tastings.
The Georgia International Wine Award has been judged by a 9-person panel made up of foreign wine experts under the chairmanship of Mr. Stephen Brook (Wine Writer, Contributing editor: Decanter, UK)
24 companies from Georgia, Italy and Austria submitted 58 samples of wine. The international juries awarded 17 medals: 9 gold medals and 8 silver medals.
Among other wines presented by Tbilvino “Qvevris” (amphora) white dry wine won Gold. Tbilvino produced ”Qvevris” using traditional Kakhetian wine producing technology - wine must was fermented on the stem, skin and seeds. This wine has been released by Tbilvino since 2011 and this novelty has being favorably accepted by consumers on local and international markets.
